On January 29th,  Parkin Electric was very honored to receive the 2010 “New Member of the Year” award at the annual Oregon City Chamber of Commerce awards ceremony and dinner at the Abernethy Center.  Maureen Parkin has largely been the face of Parkin Electric at numerous chamber functions all year long, and deserves most of the credit for this award.  Unfortunately Maureen had a schedule conflict and was out of town during the awards ceremony, but was dutifully informed and congratulated by her stand-in, via photo texting shortly after the presentation!  Nice job Maureen!

Joining the Chamber has been a great experience for us.  It has provided us the opportunity to network with other businesses, and to become more involved in our community.  The Oregon City Chamber and its members are very active in local government affairs, and supporting the community through volunteering their efforts.

We feel very fortunate to be a part of this dynamic group, thank you for your support!

PE Reps National Committees

Parkin Electric is Represented on Two National Committees!

Parkin Electric is excited to announce that not one, but two of our folks have been selected to serve on national level committees.  Maureen and David Parkin were both recently chosen to serve on committees for IEC (Independent Electrical Contractors Association) on the Safety and the Codes & Standards Committees.

Safety Committee
The Safety Committee is an advisory committee that develops and maintains IEC’s safety information and education programs, including the SPARK program, and provides liaison support with OSHA and other safety-related organizations.  Maureen also leads our Health & Safety Programs here at Parkin Electric, where she has been responsible for leading our company to an exemplary, industry leading, safety record.

Codes & Standards Committee
The Codes & Standards Committee is an advisory committee that monitors IEC’s participation in various industry codes and standards panels, reviews and recommends changes in codes and standards documents, and communicates them to IEC members and outside bodies.  Dave has also served
in a leadership capacity for several other industry organizations including: International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) for 3 terms, State of Oregon Electrical Code Change Committee member (2002, 2005, 2008) as well as currently serving on the State of Oregon Electrical Technical Committee.

Congratulations to both Maureen and Dave, we’re sure they will do a great job and contribute much with their leadership and participation on these important committee assignments!

Oregon Dream Makeover

March 2009

Helping Make Dreams Come True

Parkin Electric was honored to be part of a community project called Oregon Dream Makeover.  Two local women were inspired by the story of a young woman, Marissa Huddleston, who was battling Leukemia.  In response they founded Oregon Dream Makeover, a non-profit organization, whose goal is to find one deserving family a year and provide them with a home makeover.  You can read more about Marissa’s and their story at the official website www.ordreammakeover.com

We too were inspired by Marissa and her family.  The Huddleston family is full of love for each other and their community.  And despite the condition of their home we could tell that they took a great deal of pride in it and we knew they would appreciate the makeover.

We could see that the Huddleston home was in serious need of electrical repairs.  Parkin Electric committed to providing electrical upgrades including a new 200 amp service; new wiring in the kitchen, laundry room, bathroom the girl’s bedrooms, and miscellaneous wiring through out the rest of the house.  When it was all said and done, we ended up re-wiring nearly the whole house, as well as some miscellaneous wiring in the garage, garden shed, and outdoor patio area.

The best part about this project:  Our employees donated all of their time and one of our generous suppliers Crescent Electric Supply donated a good majority of the materials for the project.   We were blown away by the number of people and business who stepped forward to donate their time, expertise and talent to this project.   It brought us great joy to be involved.   And as you can see by the picture below, the Huddleston Family was blown away too!

Again, our sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of our employees who participated, and to Crescent Electric Supply for your caring and generosity.  You’re the best!
